Name one thing worse than wearing uncomfortable clothing at work. We can wait…
Okay, okay — there are many things that are worse in life’s big picture but you know as much as us that when your clothing is uncomfortable, it affects your mood, your concentration, your performance, etc.
None of which makes for a happy human, especially when work needs your attention.
Remember that pair of shoes that hurt your feet but you continued to wear them because you paid a lot for them and/or they looked too good to give away? We know the ones. Every woman has had that disappointing experience and for what — to prove something to ourselves?
Times have changed (literally with the fall fashion season upon us) and it is a perfect time to find some comfy and cozy in your work wardrobe while still dressing like a professional.
Fall Fashion and Hygge [Hoo-ga]
Pronounced [hyoo-guh] or [hoo-ga].
It is a word used in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) that does not have a direct translation. It depicts a feeling of cozy, comfortable, inviting, etc. Think quaint sitting room, roaring fireplace, and a good conversation — a warm and charming atmosphere.
Doesn’t that sound wonderful?
There are many ways to obtain hygge year round and everywhere. It can stretch from your room decor to your clothing to your frame of mind.

Fall Fashion for a Cozy & Classy Wardrobe
Let’s start with your work wardrobe. How can you be cozy, comfortable and classy in your workwear? We know how and are sharing our knowledge.
Layers
— Cardigans like this one keep you warm in the freezing air-conditioned buildings in the summer as well as the crisp cold mornings and evenings in the fall/winter. Find one that looks professional.
— Coats. Don’t get caught in the rain/snow/sleet without a proper coat. You need a good one to wear to and from work. Take a look at this one we like from Boden or this one if you need it to be waterproof.
— Outerwear. The weather is colder now. You need to dress for it. Wear a scarf, gloves and a hat. We love how chic berets look, like this one from Anthropologie.
Shoes
— Boots are a good choice for the Fall/Winter season. They’ll keep your feet warm and supported. Try these booties from Vionic or these from Clarks.
Patterns, Colors, Textures
Match your wardrobe to your environment. We mentioned earlier to dress for the weather.
If you live in the Southeast, the Southwest or the South, in general — you aren’t going to be wearing the same clothes as your brothers and sisters that live in the Northwest, Midwest, or Northeast. The environment is different. The weather is different.
Think about it — mountain terrain begs for different apparel than the plains or the desert, for instance. True style and its eye-pleasing nature literally comes from nature so channel your environment in your outfits.
Think of how some flowers bloom and others hibernate during the fall and winter months. Different colors are abundant. This is why we gravitate toward the jewel tones and darker shades.
Fall Fashion for a Cozy and Classy Workspace
Now that you are looking and feeling happier it is time to spread the warm and fuzzies to your workplace.
There is a reason why we want to be the professional women we see in movies and television series or want to work in their office sets. Interior designers know good style and function and we are longing for it.
Here are some ways you can bring that must-have feeling to your own office space this season.
Lighting
Lighting is one of the most important pieces of bringing hygge into a space. If you have the luxury of having your own office, bring in lamps! One or two table lamps, perhaps a floor lamp as well.
When you light a space well, you feel the results immediately. Your eyes will thank you for the soft, warm light and so will your coworkers. The space will feel more inviting and it will motivate you to be there.
Candles
Live flames may not be allowed so confirm with your employer but if they are allowed — voila! Your office coziness factor just went up a lot! Candles make everything better. The live flame, albeit small, is a soothing site.
Choose scents that are equally as soothing. Bath and Body Works has an aromatherapy line, where you’ll find candles with combinations of essential oils.
Seasonal
Seeing as it is holiday time, bring a little merry to your space. Items like tinsel, christmas lights, or a candelabra make a space feel magical and cozy.
Food & Fresh Air
Take a healthy lunch with you to work and when you’ve finished, take a walk outside with a coworker. A nice walk will get the blood pumping after you’ve been sitting at your desk and socializing gives us a cheerful, full-hearted feeling.
