If your clothes could speak, what would they say about you? Would they talk about your sense of style? Your sophistication? What would they say about your career?
At Mercury Clothiers, our clothes convey confidence and elegance. We dress for the jobs we want and the jobs we have. We think that clothes are powerful and every woman should feel empowered by their wardrobe.
Your wardrobe is an extension of you. It embodies your personality, your character, your identity. Think about it — it is the first impression people have of you. Your clothes speak before you get a chance to! Before you are able to introduce yourself, your clothes have sent a message for you.
If you do not like the messages that your clothes are sending, it is time to re-evaluate what you are wearing. Do not worry; help is here. Mercury Clothiers will help you update your style and dress the woman you are and want to be.
We offer timeless, classic pieces that will speak highly of you and never go out of style. Our suits are crafted with a real woman’s body in mind and the structured vintage fit gives you presence in the office.
Clothes are like a second skin. We believe you should feel feminine, powerful and fabulous in them. They should accentuate your attributes and be unique to your style and taste. So let’s get to work.
We have put together 5 tips to help you build a quality wardrobe.
Invest in quality pieces.
Quality over quantity applies here too. Quality pieces will last you for years and you will appreciate them so much more when you are still able to wear them in two year’s time. Focus specifically on your wardrobe staples — they are work horses and should be given a chance to perform as such. Camis and tops in colors that flatter you and express your personal style are the type we are talking about. Do not be afraid of a leopard print if it is your style, and treat color as a neutral. If you look great in red build your wardrobe around that. Do not feel you have to stick to black, grey or beige.
There are less expensive options available everywhere but do not be persuaded by the price tag. A well-made piece will cost more but hold out for the real deal. We promise, it will be worth it.
Too often we are enticed by cheaper options because we think we are getting a steal. It is not a steal and it is not cheaper in the long run, either. Cheap clothes are made cheaply and break down a lot faster than well-made clothes. Use your money wisely.
Buy timeless pieces.
Look up to the fashion icons of your time. Princess Di, Jackie O, Iris Apfel, Audrey Hepburn, Sofia Loren…these women know how to dress well.
You can never go wrong with a pair of wide-leg trousers, a blouse and a pair of pointed toe flat shoes. Those three things have been in style and will be in style forever — well, for many years at least. They are classic pieces you will always get wear out of.
Buying for the long haul is better for the environment too, and who can argue with that? You no longer have to throw away pieces due them falling apart or showing obvious signs of wear and tear. This keeps them out of the landfill and in your closet. It is a win-win.
Buy several statement pieces.
We suggest you buy a few pieces that — you guessed it — make a statement. These pieces should scream YOU! They should be unique and particular to your style. Stand out from the masses and have fun!
Do not be afraid of bright color or bold patterns. They can really liven up an outfit and show individuality. Are you a bright and cheery type? Or do dark and moody colors speak to you more? Don’t limit yourself to just tops, either. Think about colored skirts or patterned trousers. Go for a complete top and bottom set, if you dare.
Find pieces that flatter.
Your body is yours and no one else’s. It is one-of-a-kind and should be treated as such. Find pieces that flatter your body, not just fit it. You may have found the right size but does it compliment your body shape, skin color, and hair color?
Like we said earlier, there are many body types but once you find the silhouette that suits you, stick with it. When you feel good, you look good!

Accessorize.
Release your inner Chanel. Bring your look together with accessories — necklaces, earrings, bangles, belts, and even handbags. When you are trying on outfits, think about what accessories you would wear with them. This is another area in which you can add personality to your look.
Will you choose a necklace that is delicate or chunky? Long or short? Changing what accessories you wear can also be a way to take your outfit from day to night.
A great wardrobe is an investment — an investment in you and the way the world sees you. We want you to feel proud when you get dressed in the morning. Remember, when you look good, you feel good and you exude that confidence. That goes far, not only in the workplace, but in life, too.
What is that phrase — “fake it, til you make it?”. There is some truth to that. Confidence demands respect. When you act confident, others perceive you as a powerful, knowledgeable figure and they will be more likely to trust you, getting you farther and farther in your career. For a great piece of inspiration take a listen to The New Glam Gal podcast episodes on why style matters and the style and confidence connection. Ms. J brilliantly articulates the power of clothes to transform how you think and feel about yourself.
